These are the first batch of unedited scans for the project. beautiful yes i know try to hold back your tears. I am sure at this point you are asking yourself,"Why is Sergio drawing a razor for his project i throw those away every week they cant be good design!" Well one that's not a question and two this inst a disposable plastic razor- it is a sturdy old fashioned safety razor much like you would find in the bathrooms of your grandfathers (next to the dentures). "But i dont have Grandfathers that shave!" You really should let me finish it was just an attempt at ethos and not a jab at your papi's horrible dental health.
Back on subject... This razor is designed to last a lifetime if not longer, it is uses cheap double edged blades i can buy pennies on the dollar compared to those 4 bladed cartridges that go in to today's refillable razors. These are things that appeal a reflective level of my mind and really do play an important role in to the design of the razor.
Not easily portrayed in graphite or pixels is the ritual associated with this obect the heft and force of the whole razor encased in sharp angular forms ending in a shimering stainless steel curvation that could only be described as the most masculine form ever to be cast in metal.the razor has been used by men for centuries to shape the face to mold the angles and forms of the maw in to masculine paragons of facial finesse. It is a tool that requires skill to use- it is a tool that is used to define our selves.
The visceral components of the razors design accent the functions and ritual use of the object:
a stout bold obsidian black handle contrasts sharply against curved metallic forms. The weight of the object is balanced so that in the hands it feels as though you are holding a miniature hammer. raised zigzag patterns near the cutting edge emphasizes a serrated cutting motion and move the eye along a suprisignly long cutting edge. Sharp lines are only around the cutting edge all other surfaces are soft curves. The polish of the whole razor accentuates such softness.
